Women’s rights are an essential component of universal human rights. They reflect the fact that men and women have very different experiences — and the fact that women and girls often face gender-based discrimination that puts them at increased risk of poverty, violence, ill-health, and poor education. Feminists obviously feel that rights should be equal regardless of gender. It is a normal case in African countries to find a community where women are viewed as a lesser gender hence hindering them from opportunities and limiting them to unleash their full potentials. These women are subjected to cases such as early marriages and even female genital mutilation. This is so much trauma to a woman or young girl who obviously has a life to fight for and purpose.

The feminist movement (also known as the women’s movement, or simply feminism) refers to a series of political campaigns for reforms on issues such as reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, women’s suffrage, sexual harassment, and sexual violence, all of which fall under the label of feminism and the feminist movement. The movement’s priorities vary among nations and communities and range from opposition to female genital mutilation in one country to opposition to the glass ceiling in another. In Kenya, both types of feminism groups are found, which tries very hard to improve on the life of young girls and women in general.

In an effort to help these feminist groups in Kenya, citizens are encouraged to participate actively. The various methods to contribute are; read up where garner global perspective by educating yourself on important issues, so you can educate others around you about the various grievances for them to acknowledge and maybe make an effort to the improvement of the situation. One can advocate also, in where the individual or organization roll up their sleeves and volunteer with an organization which has the specified objectives. Another method is supporting an existing entrepreneurial women group, in here one is able to empower the various women who have gathered under the group who in turn poses an advantage to their respective community. They can also humanize the experience or even contribute financially.
